More of today's armed citizens are discovering the benefits of mounting a micro reflex optic onto a handgun slide, particularly as the optics become more affordable and durable enough to withstand the repeated G forces applied during a handgun slide's operation. However, most fans of RDS-equipped handguns have had to modify or outfit their handguns from a stock configuration, leading to added cost. SCCY Firearms expanded its affordable pistol lineup in 2019 with the launch of its Red Dot Pistol Series, which includes a durably built optic mounted right at the factory.

Each of SCCY's dot-equipped hanguns are found in the company's CPX-1 and CPX-2 handguns chambered in 9 mm, as well as the newer CPX-3 and CPX-4 models chambered in .380 ACP. Topping the handgun slides just behind the barrel are Crimson Trace CTS-1500 red-dot sights, providing users with a large, bright aiming point that measures 3.5 MOA across. The optic features an auto-dimming mechanism that adjusts dot brightness to ambient lighting conditions, and when placed on a mid-range setting, the optic can run for up to 20,000 hours continually.

Though the Red Dot Pistol series incorporates all models of SCCY guns, there are select handguns in the company's lineup that are built with the company's enhanced Roebuck Quad-Lock system, designed to provide improved accuracy. This construction is found in SCCY's CPX-3 and CPX-4 handguns. All of the company's pistols feature a 10-round magazine capacity, as well as fixed sights, which can be used as back-up aiming options, since they're visible through the window of the Crimson Trace optic.

SCCY guns are constructed using a double-action only operating system, complete with an internal hammer and an inertial firing pin that guards against an accidental discharge if the gun is dropped. The slides are machined from stainless steel, and they made with an aluminum-alloy receiver that sits inside the grip frame. The grip is molded from Zytel polymer and provides ergonomic finger grooves for a solid purchase.

Complete with the Crimson Trace optic, the SCCY Red Dot Pistol series is in keeping with the company's overall goal of providing affordable defensive arms to budget-minded consumers. The company's CPX-2 and CPX-3 RDS-equipped guns retail for $339, while the CPX-1 and CPX-4 retail for $349.
