One of the trends apparent in the optics market in recent years is the increasing affordability of thermal optics. Once unattainable for hunters and shooters, the technology has advanced to a point where full-featured, durable thermal optics are available at prices similar to high-quality riflescopes commonly used by today's hunters and shooters. One of the latest innovations comes in the form of the Pulsar Helion XQ28F thermal monocular, which offers an observation device to hunters, law-enforcement users and other enthusiasts.

The full-featured design of the Helion XQ28F monocular means that this model includes all of the high-end features found in other areas of the Pulsar lineup, providing audio- and video-recording capability, eight color-display options, adjustable magnification power and a rechargeable battery that provides up to eight hours of continuous wireless use. Each monocular is also Wi-Fi-compatible, giving users the ability to stream the live feed from the device to smartphones equipped with the company's Stream Vision app.

All of these features are offered in a package that's built from rugged glass-nylon composite with a germanium lens, so it's built to handle use and abuse in the field. The unit is also rated IPX7 water-resistant, so you can keep observing any time, rain or shine. The unit measures 8.6 inches in length, 2.2 inches wide and 2.3 inches high. Total weight, including the battery, is just 14.1 ounces, making this an easily carried product that fits well into any hunting or professional kit.

Internally, the Pulsar Helion XQ28F thermal monocular features an AMOLED display that provides a resolution of 640x480 with a spectral sensitivity of 8 to 14 µm. The digital display offers a field of view measuring 13.3 degrees, which translates into a field of view of 34.3 meters at 100 yards. and the built-in memory storage allows for up to 8 gigabytes of .jpg storage. The unit can be operated in temperatures ranging from -13 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. The suggested retail price on the Pulsar Helion XQ28F thermal monocular is $2,419.99.
