One of Gerber's best-selling multi-tools of all time was the company's Suspension design. A go-to tool for professionals, the 15-in-one design was appreciated in a number of industrial fields for its utility and hardy design. Now, Gerber enhanced this popular option with its Suspension-NXT multi-tool, featuring a streamlined, compact, lightweight design made for daily carry use by everyday individuals.

Each Gerber Suspension-NXT is still built to the standards of the original, featuring a rugged design that's built to handle the abuse encountered during hard daily use. However, the overall design has tightened up, providing 18 different features in a smaller package that will slide easily into a pocket or pack. The unit preserves some of the original features found in the first Suspension multi-tool, like the spring-loaded pliers and outboard tools that lock into place.

An added benefit of the outboard design means that many of the tools found on the Suspension-NXT can be accessed quickly without having to unfold the entire assembly. The tool also incorporates some new features designed to provide enhanced functionality for users across all walks of life, such as a wire stripper, medium-size flathead driver, awl, file and ruler.

Additionally, the tool also provides users with a can opener, scissors, bottle opener and a 2.25-inch knife that's partially serrated along the blade's edge. To promote easy carry, each Suspension-NXT multi-tool is equipped with a lanyard-attachment point as well as a pocket clip. The overall length, when deployed, measures 6.25 inches. When closed, the tool measures 4.25 inches long. Width-wise, the tool measures just 0.65 inch and weighs only 6.7 ounces.

The suggested retail price on the Gerber Suspension-NXT multi-tool is $35.

MIM Myths

Metal-injection molding (MIM) creates complex, durable and reliable metal parts in things we use daily. Its ability to churn out high volumes at reduced cost endeared it to the firearm industry decades ago. Despite that fact, gun companies we asked about the process were tight lipped.
