Oftentimes, a daily carry kit incorporates a number of utility items, like a flashlight or a knife. However, Gerber Gear aims to provide consumers with do-it-all multi-tools that can go beyond the capabilities of any EDC knife, bringing a dozen or more specialized tools to any issue encountered in daily life. One of the latest compact options out from the company is the Gerber Truss multi-tool, constructed with size and capability in mind.

To design the new Truss multi-tool, Gerber started with its Suspension design and removed a number of features that weren't conducive to many of the tasks tackled by daily users. These less-used items were then replaced with new elements designed to aid users in accomplishing tasks found around the house, at their jobs and in many other potential scenarios.

In total, 17 tools are offered in the compact, foldable Truss platform. Like the Suspension design, this new multi-tool includes a number of essential elements, like the prominent, spring-loaded pliers and the locking design that keeps tools secured into place while being used. New add-ons found on the Truss include wire strippers, a medium flathead screwdriver, awl, file and even a small ruler.

Additionally, the tool includes many popular features found in the company's other multi-tools, like needlenose pliers and regular pliers combined into a single, streamlined design that also includes heavy-duty wire cutters. The Truss also includes fine- and serrated-edge blades, both measuring 2.25 inches in overall length, as well as scissors, saw, real cross driver, three sizes of flathead drivers, can opener, bottle opener and a wire stripper.

All the tools found in the Gerber Truss multi-tool are contained in a one-piece, all-steel design that provides enhanced strength and durability for daily carry and use. The overall length of the truss when open is 6.5 inches, and the unit folds down into a compact size measuring only 4.35 inches. The tool is 0.66-inch wide and weighs only 8.4 ounces.

The Gerber Truss ships with a belt-mounted sheath that can be oriented horizontally or vertically. The suggested retail price on the multi-tool is $46.
