First focal plane riflescopes have become popular in recent years, thanks to benefits over traditional second focal plane designs. Notably, FFP riflescope designs enable users to accurately track elevation and windage marks built into the optic's reticle at any magnification level, while SFP designs are only accurate at one magnification level, typically the highest setting available on the optic. Many FFP designs tend to be a bit pricier than their SFP siblings, but the introduction of the Primary Arms 1-6x24 FFP Raptor riflescope opens up an FFP option for rifle shooters on a budget.
The first FFP optic design offered by Primary Arms, the 1-6x24 Raptor was one of the most-requested designs made by consumers to company engineers. Finally, a great deal of development enabled the company to offer this FFP design in a durable and affordable package. Thanks to the "shrinking" reticle provided by the FFP design, at a true 1X magnification, the reticle appears small enough to act as an intuitive center dot for rapid engagement at close ranges. Once the magnification level is increased, ranging, BDC and windage elements of the reticle begin to appear larger, providing reference points for users taking longer shots.
Each Primary Arms 1-6x24 FFP Raptor riflescope is equipped with the company's trademarked and patented Raptor reticle, which provides caliber-specific information regarding bullet drop, windage and target leads. Reticles are available for 5.56 NATO, .308 Win., 7.62x39 mm and .300 BLK. Each reticle also incorporates automatic ranging elements that enable users to accurately estimate target distance out to 600 yards. Powered by a single CR2032 battery, the reticle includes 11 different red illumination settings, lighting the reticle prominently even in bright daylight.
Machined from 6063 aluminum and treated with a matte-black, hard-anodized finish, the 1-6x24 FFP Raptor optic is built on a 30 mm main-body tube. Capped windage and elevation turrets offer 50 MOA of adjustment in each plane in 0.25 MOA increments. A spare CR2032 battery is included inside the windage-adjustment turret cap, and the scope ships with flip-up lens caps and is compatible with an extended scope lever made by 3 Gun Stuff.
The total weight on the optic is 18.8 ounces, and the suggested retail price on the Primary Arms 1-6x24 FFP Raptor riflescope is $399.99.
