Late in 2018, Ruger announced the opening of its own Custom Shop, which will turn out finely tuned rifles and handguns based on the company's proven designs. One of the first models to roll off the floor of the new shop is the Ruger SR1911 Competition, giving sport shooters added features and capabilities that enable them to excel at their chosen discipline.

"I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with Ruger's first-class engineers to develop this pistol," Team Ruger Captain Doug Koenig said. "New and accomplished competition shooters alike will find this to be one of the finest, feature-rich 1911 pistols available. This firearm was designed and built to win."

Built on a stainless-steel frame treated with a black-nitride finish, the Ruger SR1911 Competition is constructed with a hand-fitted, stainless-steel slide that provides smooth, tightly fit action. The slide is treated with an anti-glare, black-nitride treatment running along its top surface and features chevron-style serrations at the front and rear for manipulation. Inside the gun, consumers will find a 5-inch, match-grade competition barrel complete with a polished feed ramp, fitted barrel lug, target crown and a 1:16-inch twist rate designed to provide optimized accuracy for lighter-weight 9 mm bullets used in competition circles.

Other upgraded features found in the SR1911 Competition include a low-mass hammer that speeds lock time, as well as a tuned competition sear. The pistol is equipped with a flat-faced trigger shoe, machined disconnector and a hand-fitted sear spring, all designed to provide a clean, crisp trigger pull perfect for accurate, precise shooting. On the frame, 25-LPI checkering on the front strap and mainspring housing offer added texture for a solid firing grip, and a pair of Hogue Piranha grips machined from G10 fiberglass-laminate material complete an aggressive feel that anchors the gun in a shooter's hand.

To further solidify a shooter's hold and provide a comfortable shooting experience, the pistol features an undercut trigger guard and an extended beavertail that allows users to choke up on the frame, allowing the reciprocating mass of the slide to sit more in-line with the axis of the shooter's strong arm to better-absorb felt recoil and mitigate muzzle rise. Each Ruger SR1911 Competition is also outfitted with an expanded TechWell magazine well to facilitate speed reloads, as well as an ambidextrous safety, extended magazine release and adjustable target sights. The front-sight post is outfitted with a fiber-optic rod that provides an easily seen aiming point for fast action on the range.

Each Ruger SR1911 Competition pistol ships in a custom-fitted, hard-sided, waterproof carrying case along with two 10-round magazines. A certificate of authenticity, challenge coin, cleaning cloth, gun peg and decal also accompany each gun. The suggested retail price on the pistol is $2,499.
