Ruger expanded its Mark IV rimfire pistol lineup in the summer of 2017 with the addition of its new Tactical model, built with a number of features that allow additional customization and accessory attachment by end users.
The new Ruger Mark IV Tactical is equipped with a 4.4-inch barrel, which is threaded for the addition of sound suppressors, such as the Silent-SR suppressor also available from Ruger. The muzzle features a 1/2-28 TPI thread pitch and ships with a thread protector when muzzle devices aren't in use.
Other stand-out features of the Mark IV Tactical include several Picatinny rails, allowing for the attachment of optics and other accessories. The pistol features one Picatinny rail length along the top of the upper receiver, as well as a separate length of rail located below the barrel, just forward of the grip frame. In addition to the rail segments, the Mark IV Tactical is also equipped with adjustable iron sights.
The one-piece receiver and barrel assembly is machined from alloy steel and measures 1.2 inches wide. The pistol also features synthetic checkered grips and is finished in a black-oxide treatment. The overall length of the gun is 8.5 inches, while the height is 5.5 inches. The six-groove barrel features a 1:16-inch right-hand twist rate. Total weight of the Mark IV Tactical is 34.6 ounces.
Each Mark IV pistol model is built on a single-piece grip frame that is CNC-machined from a solid piece of aluminum and features the company's innovative push-button takedown system that allows owners to break apart their pistol quickly and easily for cleaning and basic maintenance.
The guns also feature an ambidextrous thumb safety, as well as a new bolt stop that is created to provide a more ergonomic and comfortable accessibility for shooters. Mark IV owners also experience quicker reloads on the range, thanks to magazines that drop freely from the magazine well. The pistols also feature a magazine-disconnect safety.
Other features of the Mark IV series include several internal changes to the hammer, sear, firing pin and bolt, providing better reliability when feeding rounds from the magazine. The Mark IV guns are also compatible with Mark III accessories, including iron sights, scope bases and holsters. All Mark IV pistols ship with two 10-round magazines. The suggested retail price on the new Mark IV Tactical model is $569.
