The inspiration for the new Eris Folder from Kershaw Knives came from the troublemaker Eris in the Greek pantheon, who often stirred up jealousy. Separate inspiration came from the planet Eris, the largest dwarf planet in the solar system. Both points of inspiration indicate that the Eris Folder is small in size, big in capability and looks the part.

The new Eris Folder features a drop-point blade with a top swedge. The blade itself is made from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, which allows it to take and retain a sharp edge without being too hard to resharpen. The knife also features easy one-handed opening, thanks to the company's SpeedSafe technology, which uses both a thumbstud and a built-in flipper for multiple deployment options.

The Eris features a handle that is made from stainless steel and coated with titanium carbo-nitride to give the handle a soft matte gray finish. The handle also features a frame lock to secure the blade when open. Other features include a contoured handle for comfort and a lanyard hole for retention. Despite being made entirely from stainless steel, the Eris weighs in at only 4.7 ounces. The included pocket clip is also reversible for left-hand carry.

The total length of the knife is 7.5 inches with a 3-inch blade. When close, the knife folds into a compact 4.1 inches. The suggested retail price on the new Kershaw Eris Folder is $49.99.
