Optic Overview: Holosun Paralow Red Dot Sight

Holosun Technologies is a relative newcomer to the optics market, having been established in California in 2013. The company provides a number of red-dot and reflex sight options, with more than 26 products in its lineup. One of the latest is the solar-powered Holosun Paralow Red Dot Sight.

The unique power system on the Paralow features dual feeds, one from the included CR2032 battery and one from the solar panel located on the top of the optic. The solar-powered mode is automatic. Simply put, straight out of the box, the optic is powered through its solar panel. In the solar mode, the optic auto-adjusts to the ambient lighting, providing the maximum intensity possible through solar power.

The CR2032 battery is inserted into a tray on the right side of the optic and provides the unit with a 50,000-hour battery life at setting six. The unit has 12 total settings: 10 are various intensities meant for daylight use, while the bottom two settings are night-vision compatible and are impossible to see in daylight.

Once the battery is inserted, the Holosun Paralow will automatically switch between battery and solar-cell operation, depending on ambient lighting. The sight is always in automatic mode unless the manual mode is activated. In manual, the light runs off the battery only. To switch on manual mode, users simply have to press the + button for 3 seconds. To switch back to auto, hold down - and + switches. If users don't activate the intensity buttons for 12 hours, the optic will automatically switch back into auto mode.

The Holosun Paralow is powered by an LED light source and produces a 2-MOA dot. The optic is adjustable for windage and elevation using two turrets on the top and right side of the housing. An added feature of the Paralow is the ability to use the turret caps for quick adjustments. Simply unscrew the cap, slot the cap into the turret insert and adjust windage or elevation. Adjustment values are 0.5 MOA per click.

The Paralow features an aluminum housing with a black oxidized finish and is rated IP67 waterproof, which means it will stand up to exposure in rain and other inclement weather. The interior of the optic is nitrogen-purged. The unit has two selector switches to adjust intensity, and these are rubber-coated and tactile.

The optic comes with an AR riser block, as well as a low-riser block. Rubber lens caps are also includes, as is an extra battery tray, adjustment tool and hex tool for riser removal and adjustment. The suggested retail price on the Holosun Paralow Red Dot Sight is $235.28.
