First Look: Springfield Armory 10mm TRP Operator 1911

Answering consumer requests for more firearms chambered in 10mm Auto, Springfield Armory announced the launch of its new TRP Operator 1911 chambered in 10mm. Two new models are available in the powerful chambering, one with a traditional 5-inch barrel and another long-slide model equipped with a 6-inch barrel.

“We have offered 10mm 1911s from our Springfield Custom Shop for many years but this is the first production 10mm 1911 offering in the Springfield Armory lineup,” CEO Dennis Reese said. “The TRP 10mm is soft-shooting, built for accuracy and takes advantage of the full potential of the hottest 10mm rounds, just as the cartridge was originally intended.”

The new Springfield Armory 10mm TRP Operator 1911 is built with a frame and slide made from forged steel. Inside the slide, consumers will find a precision-fit, match-grade barrel machined from stainless steel and built with a fully supported ramp. The frame and slide are finished in the company's durable Black-T coating, designed to ward off corrosion and promote durability while enhancing lubricity for smooth, reliable operation.

Located on the dust cover of the pistol's frame is a 3-slot Picatinny accessory rail, perfect for the use of firearm-mounted lights and lasers. The company included its trademarked Octo-Grip texturing on the front strap and mainspring housing and added a pair of VZ Grips 1911 grip panels made from durable, aggressively textured G10 fiberglass laminate in order to promote an enhanced grip. The pistols are equipped with the new Springfield Armory Gen 2 Speed Trigger, factory-tuned to provide a clean trigger pull that measures about 4.5-5 pounds. Ambidextrous safeties also come standard on both new 10mm models.

On the slide of the Springfield Armory 10mm TRP Operator 1911, users will find angled front and rear cocking serrations for manipulation. The company incorporated a optimized recoil spring that's paired up with a heavy slide/barrel combination in order to tame the recoil of the hot-loaded 10mm cartridges. At the top of the slide are three-dot night sights with tritium illumination. The 5-inch model ships with a tactical-rack rear sight ledge, and the 6-inch model features an adjustable target sight.

The 5-inch 10mm TRP Operator weighs in at 40 ounces unloaded, and the 6-inch model weighs in at 45 ounces. Each gun ships with two 8-round magazines. The suggested retail price on the Springfield Armory 10mm TRP Operator 1911 starts at $1,790 for the 5-inch model. The 6-inch option retails at a suggested price of $1,842.

To kick off the launch of these two 10mm pistol options, Springfield Armory is sponsoring a "Perfect 10mm Giveaway," giving 10mm fans a chance to win the 6-inch long-slide pistol model. To enter the contest, visit the Springfield Armory website here. The giveaway is open to entries until Jan. 15, 2018.
