Speer redesigned its popular Gold Dot ammo to include a next-generation bullet design to improve overall performance, leading to the introduction of Gold Dot G2.

The company replaced the cavity in the nose of the original Gold Dot bullet with a shallow dish filled with high-performance elastomer. Upon impact, this new design ensures that the material is pressed into fissures within the bullet itself in order to start the expansion process. This avoids the need for tissue to enter a hollow point to start expansion. The bullet's construction is also designed to eliminate core/jacket separation.

The redesign ensures uniform expansion and also allows the bullets to penetrate more consistently in different gun platforms, barrel lengths and through different barriers. The ammo passes the FBI Protocol and, according to the company, has been found to be reliable in a number of duty firearms.

Speer Gold Dot G2 is available in 9 mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP and retails for $27.95, $30.95 and $33.95, respectively, for a 50-round box.
