One common complaint about powered optics and aiming devices such as lasers centers on their power requirement—particularly on the possibility of the power going out at the worst possible time. Another refrain that often accompanies this point is the need for expensive batteries. Some companies get around this by offering free replacement batteries. LaserMax went ahead and took the need for replacing batteries out entirely.

The LaserMax Genesis is unique in being the world's first rechargeable rail-mounted green laser. Rather than rely on disposable batteries, the company has equipped this new green laser with a polymer lithium-ion battery that lasts 1.5 hours and only takes 2.5 hours to recharge completely.

This can be a double-edged sword, though, as anyone who's ever had a smartphone, tablet or bluetooth device go dead knows. While there's no disposable batteries to fiddle with removing and replacing, one must be mindful of setting it on the charger occasionally. From an economic and convenience standpoint, though, this is a quite positive development, as plugging in the micro-USB charger is far simpler than removing batteries.
