20140426-171712.jpgSecret missions into Cambodia and Laos against incredible odds were the norm for a legendary special operations force during the Vietnam War. More than 400 people attended a seminar hosted by retired Maj. John Plaster, a guru of sniping and veteran of the famous MACV SOG unit. This small group of men conducted some of the most daring missions of the war, crossing borders and inserting deep behind enemy lines to rescue downed airmen or disrupt enemy activity. Many of these brave Americans gave their lives on missions that remain classified.Plaster elucidated some of the mystery behind the men, missions and firearms of SOG to a delighted audience, which included more than 20 Vietnam veterans. One Vietnam veteran from Kentucky explained his reason for attending: "I want to learn what these men went through and how they fought. They were real heroes."
