Back in the day, .32-caliber revolvers were commonly carried by detectives, police and citizens alike. Most were loaded with a soft, lead bullets like that found in this 98-grain .32 S&W Long load from Federal. This bullet will not expand at all in gelatin, and the wound cavity is almost non-existent due to the round-nose bullet profile. However, the bullet did drive to a depth of 16 inches. The .32 S&W Long has never had a reputation as a man stopper, and there are a lot of better choices. But there are documented cases of this load stopping an attacker with one shot, which goes to show you there has to be more at play in terms of terminal performance than just expansion and velocity.
