Violent crime is down in every state, except one. Every state has some sort of concealed-carry provision, except one. And in that state's major city, violent crime is on an alarming increase. Folks, in police work we called that a clue.

The city of Chicago, IL, recently reported that violent crime, mostly involving guns, has increased 25 percent just this year. So its solution is simple, just pass a "gun violence" tax. Their idea is to let the gun industry and gun owners pay for the extra cost resulting from these acts of violence. If I had made this up, you would say I was crazy. But you can read all about it in the news.

The simple fact is there is no such thing as "gun violence." There is, however, ample proof that "people violence" exists. And one would think intelligent people would realize that you can't blame an object for what people do with it. Some have suggested it would sort be like banning cars because of drunk drivers. My guess is that Chicago will have a problem so long as it fails to effectively deal with those who would commit violent criminal attacks on others, a violence tax notwithstanding.

You see, crooks simply don't like the idea of armed citizens. It makes their work so much more difficult, not to mention being fraught with danger. Besides, the crooks are afraid a lot of those armed citizens don't know the rules. Cops know the rules, but armed citizens tend to take it personally when they, or their families, are threatened with death or serious bodily injury. See, it's pretty embarrassing when you try to break into a house and some old granny lady shoots you.

Sadly, I know a lot of decent gun owners in the state of Illinois, and they are fighting what seems to be an uphill battle. We all need to be aware of that fact and support them when we can. After all, us Second Amendment folks have to stick together. How about we just start a movement to ban violent criminals?
