Walther Arms announced this week the formal, multi-year pause of production for its legendary PPK, PPK/S and PP legacy handgun lines. It marks the end of an era for some of the most iconic firearms in history as the iconic pistols now begin a multi-year modernization journey.
“This is not the end of the PPK story,” said Tyler Weigel, vice president of sales of Walther Arms. “It’s the beginning of a new chapter. Our goal is to honor the heritage of these iconic firearms by bringing them into the future without compromising what made them classics.”
For nearly a century, the Walther PP series of pistols have stood the test of time and became global symbols of craftsmanship, elegance and reliability. They have been immortalized in popular culture and revered by firearm enthusiasts worldwide. The handguns have set the standard for timeless design, performance and reliability. The company is steadfast in honoring that legacy, but eager to clear the path for the line’s next evolution.
Walther’s multi-year reengineering and modernization program is aimed at enhancing performance, integrating advanced manufacturing technologies and elevating the user experience to that expected by today’s gun owner. The upgrades will, however, preserve the iconic look, feel and spirit that have defined these pistols for generations.
For the Collector
Enthusiasts still have a chance to add one of these pistols to their collection, but time to do so is limited. Admirers of the iconic series are encouraged to visit their local authorized Walther dealer to explore any available units and secure a piece of firearm history before they vanish from shelves.
Act fast, however. Walther no longer has an inventory of the current-generation PPK, PPK/S and PP models. Prices are bound to increase once the guns are sold out at FFLs and the no-longer-available firearms become collector’s items.
