The United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) has awarded Speer Ammunition with a three-year contract to continue supplying SOCOM with Speer Gold Dot G2 duty ammunition. Terms of the contract allow the order to reach a maximum of 8.5 million cartridges.

“When it comes to dependability and terminal ballistics, Speer is the gold standard,” said Speer Vice President of Government Sales David Leis. “That’s why Speer is a top choice of law enforcement and military professionals, Speer continues to supply our U.S. DOD and unified forces with superior products for their efforts in protecting U.S. global interests.”

The original Gold Dot was developed by Speer in 1991 and quickly became a favorite among law enforcement departments, both domestically and internationally. The popularity among those who protect and serve hasn’t faded in its more than three decades of service, with those department’s relying on the Uni-Cor construction including the Miami-Dade Police Department, the Department of Homeland Security, French Police and dozens—more likely hundreds—of others.

In 2016 the company introduced the second generation (G2) of the famed bullet and attack-stopping load to civilian gun owners. That Speer Gold Dot G2 features an exclusive nose design and is available in 9 mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP. Instead of a large hollow-point cavity, it has a shallow dish filled with a high-performance elastomer. On impact, the material is forced into engineered internal fissures to launch the expansion process. The result is extremely uniform expansion, improved separation of the petals, and more consistent penetration across barrier types through duty handguns. The Los Angeles Police Department adopted it in 2019.

In 2020, Speer introduced Carry Gun Gold Dot G2 loads specifically designed to deliver the same performance when used in the smaller guns often preferred for EDC (everyday carry), such as compact and sub-compact pistols.
