U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) awarded a contract to Glock in April to provide CBP law enforcement personnel the next generation standard-duty handgun. The contract is for up to $85 million over 10 years, which includes other Department of Homeland Security law enforcement components that have the option to purchase duty handguns through the contract.

“This contract provides CBP law enforcement personnel the latest in handgun technology and represents our commitment to providing the highest quality use-of-force tools and equipment to our law enforcement personnel who defend America’s frontline every day,” said CBP Deputy Commissioner Robert E. Perez.

The solicitation process included independent performance testing by the National Institute of Justice laboratories, direct input from over 16,000 CBP law enforcement personnel and extensive field evaluations. CBP intends to transition all law enforcement personnel from the current .40 S& W pistol to a 9 mm by the end of Fiscal Year 2021.

The award incorporates several models, all featuring Glock’s fifth generation technology. Included are the Glock G19 Gen 5 MOS, Glock G26 Gen 5 and the newly developed Glock G47. The latter incorporates a full-size slide with a G45 frame and was developed for the solicitation. It is not available to consumers. All three models feature a flared magwell for faster magazine changes, the company’s match-grade Marksman Barrel and will be outfitted with AmeriGlo BOLD sights.

“It is indeed a great honor to serve those who go in harm’s way to protect all Americans and defend our borders every day,” said Josh Dorsey, vice president of Glock. “The comprehensive and arduous testing and evaluation process demonstrates that Glock pistols continue to deliver unmatched performance and value, giving all agents the confidence they need to succeed and survive in any situation.”

With more than 45,000 sworn agents and officers, U.S. Customs and Border Protection controls and protects the nation’s borders and has operations at more than 330 ports of entry.

Beretta APX A1 Carry

Comfort is a big part of daily carry, and it should be. If packing your favorite handgun feels like you are smuggling a shoebox (or an angry hedgehog), then you will squirm, shift and give away the fact that you are carrying. Hot weather makes it even worse, as light clothing offers less in the way of concealment. When EDC becomes too much of a hassle, some just leave it at home.
