U.S. Army Contracting Command-New Jersey posted a notice on July 2 stating its intent to purchase SIG Sauer SP2022, MPX and MCX firearms and accessories. Later that day it was modified [PDF] to also include the company’s 716 G2. The five-year, indefinite quantity contract (at a fixed  price for its duration) was made on behalf of, “Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) and Product Manager Crew Served Weapons (PMCSW) and several other programs.”

Potential volume of each gun ordered varies widely. Between one and 100 MCXs could be purchased, but SP2022s numbers could run as high as 5,000 under the agreement. The deal also includes as many as 100 SRD9 suppressors and their accessories.

Specific firearm versions included are the 716 G2, which is chambered in 7.62 NATO, gas-operated and piston-driven. Magazine capacity is 20 rounds, and up to 500 of the guns can be ordered under the contract’s terms.

MCX models ordered will all have 9-inch barrels. No chambering was listed in the posting, but the company’s models include versions that digest 5.56 NATO and .300 BLK.

Up to 1,000 4.5-inch barreled MPXs are included in the deal. Regardless of the flavor, they have a  9 mm chambering and magazine capacity in the handgun is 30 rounds.

As many as 5,000 SP2022s could be purchased, all of them with “standard sights.” In 9 mm, barrel length is 3.9 inches, and in .40 S&W—the only other chambering—the figure goes up to 4.6 inches. Magazine capacity in the government contract indicates a 15-round-capacity magazine, though, confirming the models ordered are in 9 mm and will be used with standard military sidearm loads.

SRD9 suppressors are a direct-thread design for 9 mms. Despite their titanium and stainless steel construction, they weigh only 9 ounces.
