New Tactical Gear

SHOT Show 2024 Day is well underway in Las Vegas, NV, and I have to say, my feet are doing ok so far. I have walked miles to seek out some interesting products in the Tactical Gear category. Several products caught my attention, and I am happy to share them with you.

Sandpiper of California (SOC) Portage Pack

The versatile new daily Portage pack from SOC addresses several issues for our busy world. Ensuring the safety of our family is of utmost importance and SOC thought of a nice lightweight pack to assist us.

In business since 1980, SOC has been producing high-quality products initially beginning with items for the U.S. Military. It has now brought out a durable and well outfitted “civilian-style” series. The Portage is new for this line and features a pull-out bottle sleeve, convertible concealed carry pocket, fleece-lined pouch and a convertible compression/luggage style strap. The Portage also has an area designed to fit an armor plate. It is large enough to hold everything needed for important business meetings or a day in the field. MSRP is $118.50.

Vertx Long Walks Pack

I appreciated the look of this pack and feel it will be a welcome addition to any hike, event or wherever your travels take you. This lightweight multi-purpose pack can be worn in three different ways: cross body, as a chest rig attachment to your backpack and around your waist. There are multiple accessories you can customize the pack with because the roomy main compartment is outfitted with hook-and-loop for Vertx’s Tactigami accessories.

The low-profile low snag top handle gives the pack a modern appearance and a light-colored interior improves visibility when searching for items.

The Long Walks Pack is made from lightweight, highly durable mini-ripstop nylon fabric with a water repellent finish. MSRP is $64.99.

Federal Premier Cases and Bags

Remember your fathers' shooting bags and gun cases? Federal does and have harkened back to earlier days with a modern twist in their new Premier gun accessories.

These cases and bags are sturdy and classically beautiful.  Made with 18-ounce waxed canvas, durable leather-reinforced accents, and a vintage style plaid interior, these options are a classy addition to your range or hunting line-up. The heavy-duty cotton web handles are wrapped in leather for comfort and durability. Brass hardware upgrades these bags and cases, quilted padding, durable easy-slide lining and a sturdy double zipper pull these bags should stand the test of time so your kids can remember your firearm accessories with fond memories. MSRP runs from $54.99 to $159.99.

IFAK

Elite First Aid Recon IFAK Pack

So, I think maybe a medical kit might be in order to mention in a tactical roundup. In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, injuries can occur. Traffic accidents cause thousands of injuries alone; why not be prepared?

Elite First Aid has launched their new Recon IFAK pack with several ways to wear it. You can secure it in your vehicle over the headrest using an open-ended hook for easy access or wear it on your belt. If you choose to wear it on your belt, the design allows you to wear it with a belt up to 3-inches wide. You will find several important items with your pack including:

  • SWAT or CAT Tourniquet
  • 4-inch Israeli dressing
  • 4x4 QuickClot
  • EMT shears
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Burn gel packets
  • Comes in black, tan or red

MSRP ranges from $99.95 to $139.95 depending on contents.

New Pistol Suppressors for 2025

We hear you (pun intended)! This year, we are reporting manufacturer’s sound-reduction rating where available. Now, not every manufacturer makes that information publicly available, so you’ll see a fair number of “N/As” where no decibel-reduction numbers were provided, but rest assured that, despite what you might think, the noise-reduction rating is one of the least important factors when choosing a new suppressor (more on that in a future article).
