Ruger expanded the American Pistol lineup by adding a .45 ACP-caliber Compact option in "Pro" configuration, meaning that it has no external manual safety.

The Ruger American Pistol line, originally introduced in December 2015, was the result of a conscious effort by the company to solicit opinions on form, function and features from top law enforcement and military trainers throughout the United States.

The pistol features a recoil-reducing barrel cam that is designed to soften recoil by spreading out the energy over a longer period of time. The gun also features a low-mass slide, a low center of gravity and a low bore axis in order to improve balance, reduce muzzle flip and produce less felt recoil than other pistols on the market.

The action in the American Pistol uses a pre-tensioned striker, which allows for less take-up on the trigger and a more positive reset. The gun also features a modular grip system that allows users to adjust the grip to fit their personal preferences.

The Compact model of the American Pistol features a 3.75-inch barrel with an overall length of 7.25 inches, a height of 4.65 inches and a weight of 28.6 ounces. The gun comes with two magazines: one 10-round extended magazine and one 7-round flush-fit magazine. The suggested retail price on the .45 ACP model of the Compact Ruger American Pistol is $579.
