AR-15 Precision Stocks

What do match-grade rifle cartridges, clear optics, precision rifle barrels and furniture for accurized rifles all have in common? They promote consistency, which is a core tenet of any rifle-shooting discipline that involves a higher degree of accuracy. Precision AR stocks not only have to contain the rifle’s receiver extension, but they are also help provide ballast to the rifle’s rear, and the adjustable combs and butt-pads help replicate a consistent mount position behind the rifle. AR-15 precision stocks that have flat bottoms to better ride rear support bags are also extremely helpful.

MagpulMagpul PRS Gen 3 (MSRP: $259)

The Magpul PRS Gen 3 remains Magpul’s go-to precision style AR-15 stock. Now on its third generation, the Magpul PRS Gen 3 not only has tool-less knobs that allow each shooter to adjust their buttpad depth and comb height, but it also has that critical flat-bottom surface to more easily interface with rear bags. Beyond the bags, this bottom surface also includes two M-Lok slots for adding specialized precision accessories like rear monopods. The PRS Gen 3 stock is receiver-extension agnostic, as it can be installed on standard or large-frame AR-pattern rifles with standard rifle, carbine or even (A5-style extended) receiver extensions.

B5 SystemsB5 Systems Collapsible Precision Stock ($230)

B5 Systems took an interesting approach to designing an AR-15 precision rifle stock. While the Collapsible Precision Stock checks off all the requisite boxes like an adjustable comb, adjustable butt-pad and flat bag-riding bottom surface, it also goes a step further. Most AR-15 precision stocks are fixed length, but the B5 Systems’ units collapse like regular AR-15 carbine stocks. In addition to this, the company sells three different versions of the Collapsible Precision Stock, units that are short, medium and long. The end-result is that shooters can take advantage to best suit their specific precision AR-15 shooting needs, especially the length of pull of the stock.

Luth-arLuth-AR MBA-1 (MSRP: $139)

No, Luth-AR didn’t send its precision AR-15 stock to the Wharton Business School. In this case, “MBA” stands for “modular buttstock assembly.” Luth-AR manufactures an entire product line of rifle and carbine-length adjustable stocks and at least two models in their lineup have adjustable combs and butt-pads. Their flagship model is the Luth-AR MBA-1 rifle buttstock. Inspired by the classic M-16A2 fixed buttstock, which uses a rifle-length receiver extension, the bottom surface of the stock is flat and the front corner even has a gentle “hook” contour to better grab onto those rear-stabilizing rear bags.

FAB DefenseFAB Defense R.A.P.S. (MSRP: $207)

You’re probably noticed the elemental pattern to the core features of an AR-15 precision rifle stock—flat-bottom surface, adjustable comb and length of pull adjustable butt-pads. The FAB Defense R.A.P.S., Rapid Adjustable Precision Buttstock, is no different and also counts on these features. The FAB Defense’s stock has the distinction of having the the most vertical clearance on the comb of precision AR-15 stock on this list has, up to 1.65 inches. Like the Magpul PRS Gen 3, the R.A.P.S. can be installed on most any type of receiver extension.
