The safe, effective use of semi-automatic handguns requires that users have not only a basic understanding of a pistol's operating system but also a certain amount of fitness and dexterity in order to safely and reliably operate it. For those who have issues with the latter, the P3 Racker offers a different option.

It's a reality that some individuals are unable to perform the manual of arms required for the use of a handgun. The disabled, elderly and smaller-statured women all ought to have access to firearms, and the P3 Racker gives them the ability to load and fire semi-auto handguns.

The way the P3 Racker works is through the use of a lever system that places pressure onto two serrated rubber pads at the front end of the device. By simply squeezing the racker with one hand at the rear, pressure is placed onto the two pads at the front. Users can simply insert a handgun slide in between the two rubber pads and squeeze. Once the pads at the front are firmly pressed into the sides of a handgun slide, the user can then push the pistol frame forward while pulling the P3 Racker to the rear to load the gun.

The example of the P3 Racker that Shooting Illustrated received appeared to be well-built and certainly capable of performing the job it was designed to do. It does not take a great deal of hand strength to impart a usable amount of pressure onto the two grab pads at the front, ensuring that even those lacking hand strength can still make use of the device.

For an extended day at the range, the P3 Racker is a great accessory to have on hand. For those who have a love of shooting but simply don't have the stamina necessary to continue the repeated racks necessary for a handgun slide, this is a must-have.

However, the P3 Racker is not recommended for concealed-carry or home-defense use. An unfortunate truth about semi-automatic pistols is that they can malfunction, and users must be prepared to deal with a malfunction in an emergency. While the P3 Racker is a great tool to load a handgun, it is no substitute for the necessary motions used to clear a malfunctioning firearm.

For home defense and personal defense, gun owners ought to search for firearm options they can operate safely and reliably without the use of external tools. For everything else, there's the P3 Racker.
