On the Range: Bergara Premier Series Long Range Rifle

posted on June 12, 2017
The new Premier Series Long Range rifle from Bergara is all-new for 2017 and is built to be a precision platform perfect for tactical and competition use.

The Long Range is built using a carbon-fiber stock that features a full-length mini chassis that is embedded into the stock for repeatable stock bedding that supports a full free-float barrel, which contributes to the gun's high accuracy potential. The stock also features an adjustable cheek riser that allows shooters to raise the comb to meet the mounting height of any optic. In addition, the stock uses adjustable length-of-pull spacers for added customization.

Other features of the rifle include a Picatinny-rail scope mount that features 20 MOA of elevation built into the rail for added reach and adjustment range. The stock also features integral quick-detach flush-cup mounts. The barrel itself is threaded for suppression with a 5/8x24 TPI threaded muzzle.

The rifle feeds from an AICS detachable magazine. The gun ships with a single five-round Magpul magazine, but the gun will take any AICS-pattern magazine on the market. The Long Range is also equipped with a Timney 517 Flat trigger for added precision, as well as a No. 5 barrel taper.

The Bergara Premier Series Long Range rifle is available in .308 Win., 6.5 Creedmoor, .280 Ackley Improved, 6 mm Creedmoor, .270 Win. and .300 Win. Mag. The barrels for the .280 Ackley Improved model features a twist rate of 1:9-inch, while the 6.5 Creedmoor and the 6 mm Creedmoor options feature a twist rate of 1:8-inch. All other models use a barrel twist rate of 1:10-inch.

Long-action models of the Long Range weigh in at 10.1 pounds, while short-action models weigh in at 9.9 pounds. The one exception to this is the .308 Win. model, which weighs in at 9.6 pounds. The overall length of the gun, depending on action and barrel lengths, ranges from 39.5 inches to 45.5 inches.

Models chambered in .308 Win. feature a barrel length of 20 inches, while the 6.5 Creedmoor and long-action models feature a barrel length of 24 inches. the 6 mm Creedmoor uses a barrel that measures 26 inches long.

The suggested retail price for the Bergara Premier Series Long Range rifle is $2,775.

What is the Greatest Defensive Skill?

You can say what you want to about your favorite defensive school or those advanced-fighting techniques you learned, but the greatest defensive skill that a person can develop is simply awareness. I will freely admit that developing effective awareness is anything but simple, but being able to spot trouble before it is close enough to get in your face will certainly save you from a lot of trouble and possibly even some pain and grief.
