Springfield Armory is releasing the new XD Mod.3 OSP 9mm pistol. This new pistol offers enhancements and upgrades designed to take the proven design of the XD series to the next level, at an MSRP of just $325.
“The new XD Mod.3 offers shooters a modern and enhanced take on this proven 9mm pistol platform,” said Steve Kramer, vice president of marketing for Springfield Armory. “With optics capability, improved ergonomics and a very impressive price point, this 9mm deserves a very close look.”
The hammer-forged, Melonite-finished slide of the pistol features a factory-milled OSP (Optical Sight Pistol) cut designed to accept a wide variety of popular red-dot optics. OSP plates are available for purchase from Springfield Armory, allowing for the installation of sights using the RMR, DeltaPoint Pro and Docter footprints. The slide also has a set of steel sights with a high-visibility red fiber-optic front sight paired with a white-dot rear sight. There are slide serrations both fore and aft for an improved grip in adverse conditions, while a flared cut at the rear provides additional purchase for easier manipulation. In addition to a visual and tactile loaded chamber indicator located atop the slide, a striker-status indicator on the slide’s rear face adds an additional layer of security. Inside the slide is a 4-inch long, hammer-forged barrel with a Melonite finish.
The frame of the XD Mod.3 is textured at the most important contact points. An undercut trigger guard and extended beavertail allow for a higher hand position for better control. The pistol’s passive grip safety features a raised “memory bump” for consistent and reliable engagement, and there is a flat-faced trigger for improved feel and performance. An accessory rail on the dustcover allows the user to fit a wide range of accessories such as lights and lasers. The XD Mod.3 ships with a 16-round stainless-steel magazine, and a 10-round version is available for restricted locations.
