Sturm, Ruger, & Company made a splash recently with the Max-9, a micro 9 mm with up to 12+1 capacity. Now the company is back again with the Ruger LCP Max, which is an ultra-compact pistol chambered in .380 ACP that has a capacity of 10+1 rounds.

Uniquely, the LCP Max has the same footprint as the LCP II, while a 12-round extended magazine can also be utilized to increase capacity and the length of the grip for a better purchase. In other words, the new LCP Max gives you the same size pistol with twice the capacity as the original LCP. The handgun is 1 inch wide and weighs less than 11 ounces, making it even smaller than the micro 9 mms that are on the market today. It is an ideal option for those looking for the best in concealment for everyday carry.

A common complaint about many pocket pistols is that the sighting system is less that ideal. To alleviate the concern, Ruger fitted the LCP Max with a tritium front sight with a white outline that makes target acquisition much easier. There's also a generous U-notch rear sight that Ruger says works equally as well. A square face on the rear sight is said to help aid in one handed slide manipulation, while steel drift-adjustable sights help improve the accuracy.

“The LCP Max design incorporates over a decade of learning and experience,” said Ruger President and CEO, Chris Killoy. “What you loved about your LCP and LCP II, we know you will love even more with the new LCP Max.”

The LCP Max has double-stack magazine feed lips that are optimized for reliable feeding with a variety of .380 ACP ammo available on the market today. If you use the flush fit 10-round magazine, the company says the feel is identical the the LCP II magazine, while offering four additional rounds.

The handgun also features a medium textured grip frame and a Secure Action trigger with a short, crisp trigger pull and internal safety. The slide features deep serrations to ease in manipulation, as do pronounced cocking ears. The LCP Max ships with one 10-round magazine, a finger extension floorplate, a pocket holster, and a magazine loader. MSRP is $449; for more information, check out Ruger.com.
