Luth-AR Fractional Twist AR Barrel

Luth-AR is known for making accessories that provide for enhanced accuracy and convenience for AR pattern firearms. Now the company is offering a 1:8½-inch-twist barrel to provide shooters with increased accuracy over a wide variety of bullet weights for .223 Rem./5.56 NATO -chambered AR-15s.  The standard for many decades has been to make barrels for AR-15s with whole-number twist rates, such as 1 twist in 7 inches (1:7), or 1:10, 1:9 and others. This has meant that barrels for the AR market have primarily been offered in 1:7-, 1:8-, 1:9- or 1:12-inch twist rates.

The AR market typically expects that the heavier bullets such as 75-, 77- or 80-grain bullets will shoot more accurately in a 1:7- or 1:8-inch twist barrel. On the other hand, the 1:9-inch twist has been considered the standard for recreational shooting of lighter projectiles such as 55-, 60-, 62-, 68- and 69-grain bullets. With the 1:8½-inch Fractional Twist AR Barrel, Luth-AR decided that a fractional rate may offer a more inclusive accuracy bandwidth for everything from 55- to 77-grain bullets.

The 1:8½-inch Fractional Twist Barrel is available in the following configurations, all made from 416 stainless steel with M4 feed ramps and six lands and grooves rifling.

20-inch heavy-barrel version: This profile helps minimize gun movement and puts the weight behind the gas block providing a more profiled barrel up front while controlling barrel vibration. The barrel is threaded, allowing you to add your choice of suppressor or muzzle device. MSRP is $229.95.

20-inch fluted, threaded bull-barrel version: This helps minimize gun movement and is threaded to allow you to add your choice of suppressor or muzzle device. MSRP is $244.95.

20-inch non-fluted, threaded bull-barrel version: The thicker barrel reduces barrel vibration and takes longer to heat up and is also threaded for accessories. MSRP is $229.95.
