One of Gerber Gear's best-selling multitools has long been its Center-Drive model, the core of which contained a fold-out bit driver that aligned with the center axis of the tool. This allows users to more-easily take advantage of swappable bits without having to awkwardly twist an off-center handle. However, consumers flooded the company with requests to improve the design, and Gerber answered those demands with its new-for-2019 Center-Drive Plus multitool.

“The original Center-Drive was a total market disruptor and best-seller for us right out of the gate,” says Eric Moore, Gerber Product Manager. “The expansion of the Center-Drive lineup is a no-brainer. We took cues from our customers to add the most commonly-requested features like spring-loaded scissors, a partially serrated blade, and an American-made leather sheath to create an even better version of an already hardworking multi-tool.”

Also added to the new 2019 Gerber Center-Drive Plus model is the addition of a tumble-style finish treatment, which gives the entire tool a durable, matte finish that doesn't mar easily and withstands the rigors of everyday carry. The American-made sheath that comes with the multitool features a snap closure that enables the tool to stay secured during storage or transport. Of course, the core concept of the Center-Drive tool is retained, providing users with a 3.2-inch bit driver that aligns with the center axis of the handle. Along with the sheath, 12 different bits are included in a compact, rubberized storage and transport case, providing a combination of commonly used square, Torx, flat, hex and cross bits designed to tackle a range of tasks.

Other features found in the Gerber Center-Drive Plus multitool include spring-loaded needlenose and standard pliers, a file, pry bar, carbide wire cutters, awl, a ruler measuring in both inches and centimeters and a bottle opener. The tools can be opened one-handed, and the suggested retail price on the multitool is $144.
