FN recently introduced the new 509 LS Edge, a pistol designed to give users every advantage—or "edge"—in the most demanding of environments. The handgun is a factory-tuned 9 mm Long Slide (hence the "LS") that the company claims delivers cutting-edge performance and is built to excel from range to battlefield.

The new LS Edge is of course built around the proven FN 509 platform and was enhanced with the design influence of tier-one operators and world champion pistol shooters to strategically configure critical components of the new pistol. In the end, FN says it delivers a handgun with incredible versatility, accuracy, control and speed.

“FN’s commitment to developing performance-driven products has reached a new level with the FN 509 LS Edge,” said Mark Cherpes, CEO for FN America, LLC. “The foundation of unmatched FN craftsmanship and battle-proven reliability combined with expert counsel from professional users, allowed us to develop the most advanced FN 509 pistol to date.”

The new pistol features the FN Low-Profile Optics-Mounting System, which is paired with a green fiber-optic front sight that allows users to run iron sights and a co-witnessed MRDS. The LS Edge comes with four mounting plates and the midsize frame provides the feel of a full-size handgun while retaining optimal conealability. An ambidextrous slide-stop and two interchangeable backstraps give shooters a custom fit and feel.

The trigger is designed with short take up, positive reset and a flat face, which makes for quick follow-up shots. Likewise, the green fiber-optic front sight allows for fast target acquisition. The flared mag well houses a 17-round magazine and makes for quick reloads.

One of the most eye-catching features of the new LS Edge is the lightening-cut Long Slide, which pairs nicely with the graphite anodized base plates and flared aluminum mag well. The result is a flat-shooting pistol that racks quickly and recovers instantly with good tracking. Full-height stippling makes for excellent control, allowing shooters to get a 360-degree grip and manage recoil.
