Apex Tactical Specialties announced the addition of new Apex-Grade 40/9 conversion barrels to its product lineup, designed specifically to convert Smith & Wesson M&P pistols in .40 S&W to 9 mm.

The new barrels are made from stainless steel and feature a 1:10 twist rate and are designed for .40-caliber pistols with 4.25- and 5-inch barrels. Two barrel models will be available for consumers: Semi Drop-in and Gunsmith Fit configurations.

The Semi Drop-In 40/9 conversion barrel is designed to allow the end user to easily fit the barrel to an M&P's slide, and the company claims that the new barrel will shoot at least 1.5 inches or better at 25 yards with the new barrel. The Gunsmith Fit is designed for installation by a trained gunsmith with the ability to fit a new barrel exactly to a pistol's slide. With the Gunsmith Fit conversion barrel, the company claims accuracy will measure 1 inch or better at 25 yards.

The Apex Grade barrel was designed by company founder and CEO Randy Lee and features a unique barrel geometry that, according to Apex, will consistently deliver groups below 2 inches at 25 yards with 115-grain, 124-grain and 147-grain factory ammunition. The company further claims that Ransom Rest testing routinely produced sub-1-inch groups at 25 yards with the company's barrel.

However, the company claims that accuracy results may vary, given shooter ability, ammo selection and factory firearm tolerances. The company also warns shooters that they may experience erratic ejection patterns in the conversion barrels, due to lighter or lower-velocity rounds.

The Apex Tactical 40/9 conversion barrel retails at a suggested price of $199.95.
