Today we're getting our first look at a brand-new 1911-style pistol from Nighthawk Custom Firearms, the TRS Comp. The TRS (which stands for Tactical Ready Series) is a brand-new collection from Nighthawk that utilizes a double-stack, aluminum frame.

One of the shortcomings a lot of people mention about the traditional 1911 is capacity. Using a single-stack magazine limits on-board ammunition more than double-stack, polymer pistols popular today. We've seen companies like STI and others come out with double-stack 2011 models, and Nighthawk has actually had a double-stack upgrade available for a couple years. The TRS series is the first of Nighthawk's offerings to feature a dedicated, double-stack design rather than an option on an existing single-stack frame.

So, the TRS Comp is an interesting design. It pairs the compensator that came out with the Firehawk pistol and the same operation with a double-stack frame. The grip is aluminum, while the slide and compensator are steel. A gold-bead front sight and a Heinie ledge-style rear sight complete the top of the slide, while an interesting texture in the form of small circles or divots covers the grip. What's really interesting is the width - the grip width really doesn't feel all that different from a traditional 1911.

Of course, you're going to get all the Nighthawk features you've come to expect in the excellent trigger and superlative fit, finish and function. The 17-round magazines are STI design, proven and tested for reliable operation. It's a great pairing that completes a really beautiful gun, and we can't wait to see more pistols in the TRS series line from Nighthawk Customs.
