First Shots: Springfield Armory Ronin Operator Pistol

Springfield Armory released its new Ronin Operator pistol at SHOT 2020 at the beginning of the year, and we've had a chance to take a closer look at this new 1911-style pistol.

Most of you are already going to be familiar with Springfield Armory 1911s. The company has an extensive line known for quality construction because of the use of forged materials. A stainless steel, forged frame with a carbon steel forged slide that has been blued. It gives it a nice two-two appearance, and there's more than that going on with this gun.

This is a Government model 1911, meaning it has a 5-inch barrel and single-action operation. A red fiber-optic front and a ledge style, two-white-dot rear sight. The rear sight is serrated to reduce glare. Cocking serrations fore and aft assist in slide manipulations, while the checkered, crossed-cannon stocks anchor the Ronin firmly in the hand.

The Operator is available in both 9 mm and .45 ACP, and there's talk of a Commander model in the works. It's just a nice gun at a great price point; a lot of gun for not a lot of money. For more on the Ronin Operator, visit Springfield Armory.
