It’s certainly true that shooters can go broke building a competition chassis rifle, but thanks to Savage Arms, there’s now a more cost-effective way to get in the long-range game. Savage introduced the Axis II Precision rifle at the 2020 SHOT Show in Las Vegas as the perfect solution for budget-conscious shooters who still place a premium on downrange accuracy.

The Savage Axis II has been around for some time as a budget-friendly bolt gun, but new for 2020 is the Precision rifle built on a Modular Driven Technologies (MDT) chassis that was designed in partnership with Savage specifically for the Axis II. The MDT chassis features an olive drab, injection-molded skin with black aluminum receiver, giving it a sleek look that’s at home in the field or on the range. The new Axis II Precision is available in six popular cartridges, including .223 Rem., .308 Win., .30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor.

Highly customizable for virtually any size shooter, the Axis II Precision features adjustable comb height and length-of-pull from 13.5 to 14.5 inches. Weighing in at 9.88 pounds with an overall length of 42.5 to 43.5 inches, the rifle is meant to carry afield. The 22-inch barrel is constructed from carbon steel and utilizes a 1:9.25-inch twist with matte-black finish. Button-rifled, threaded and employing a heavy contour, the Axis II Precision delivers consistent accuracy at extended ranges.

Made to accessorize, the Axis II Precision features an M-Lok fore-end and threaded barrel with cap to accommodate a suppressor. The rifle employs an AICS-style, detachable magazine and is topped by a 20 MOA, one-piece Picatinny rail for optics mounting. The Precision rifle comes equipped with the AccuTrigger, which is adjustable from 1.5-6 pounds and helps deliver impressively small group sizes. MSRP: $949
