Ruger expanded its Security-9 handgun lineup in November 2019 with the launch of two new Pro models. Available in full-size and compact variants, the Ruger Security-9 Pro retains many of the same features that made the original Security-9 lineup popular with consumers. However, several changes make the Ruger Security-9 Pro package a more attractive option for some handgun enthusiasts on the market.

In the original Ruger Security-9 lineup, guns came equipped with a manual thumb safety. The new Security-9 Pro features no thumb safety and relies on a safety tab built into the trigger. Additionally, the original Security-9 shipped with traditional, white-dot sights that were difficult to see in low-light conditions, leading many defense-oriented consumers to seek out enhanced sights for their guns. Ruger now offers tritium-illuminated sights straight from the factory on the Pro models. The Security-9 Pro and Pro Compact models also ship with three alloy-steel magazines.

With the exception of these changes, the Ruger Security-9 Pro guns retain the same design elements as the original lineup, which is still available for those who prefer a thumb safety. The Security-9 is constructed with the same hammer-fired Secure Action system used on the company's popular LCP II pocket pistol. The guns are built with a glass-nylon frame, in which sits a hardcoat-anodized aluminum chassis complete with full-length guide rails.

The full-size Ruger Security-9 Pro measures 7.24 inches long, 1.02 inches wide and 5 inches high and features a 4-inch barrel. Total weight on the full-size model is 23.8 ounces, unloaded, and the gun uses 15-round magazines. The Ruger Security-9 Compact Pro measures 6.52 inches long, 1.02 inches wide and 4.35 inches high. The gun is outfitted with a 3.42-inch barrel and weighs 21.9 ounces, unloaded. Total magazine capacity on compact models is 10 rounds.

Each Ruger Security-9 Pro model sells at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $549. For more information, visit ruger.com.
