The popular Legion series of pistols recently saw another set of additions, and we had a chance to shoot them at this year’s SIG SAUER VIP Media Day at the Range. Originally introduced four years ago as an easier way for the regular customer to buy a custom gun, Legion guns package together popular upgrades and modifications in a sleek, gray package available direct from the factory.

The last new pistol that joined the Legion family was the P220 two years ago. While we’ve seen existing Legion guns get new variants like last year’s P220 10mm and P229 SAO, it’s been a hot minute since there was a brand new Legion. That changed at the end of last year with the Legion P238 and P938.

The P238 and P938 are very similar micro 1911-style guns, popular for concealed carry. They’ve been (in)famous for coming in a variety of colors with a smorgasbord of grips, but to date the differences from gun to gun have been almost entirely cosmetic. The Legion P238 and P938 do have a pretty gray finish and custom, highly-textured G10 grips like every other Legion pistol, but that’s not all they’ve done.

Both sport solid steel guide rods to help tame recoil, which can be a handful in these tiny guns, and use a trigger designed by Grayguns Inc. Grayguns is known as one of the top custom shops for SIG handguns, and that’s why SIG turned to them for triggers for the P238 and P938, like they did for the Legion P226 and P229.

And topping off the Legion formula, the P238 and P938 now sport X-RAY3 sights, super usable under daylight but with glowing tritium for night use.

In combination? Fun and easy to shoot – a worthy set of upgrades with the convenience of not having to send your gun in for custom work.

MSRP for the Legion P238 is $850.00 and for the P938 is $904.00.
