While the 12-gauge shotgun has long been a go-to arm for home defense, the platform isn't without some drawbacks. One of the factors that mitigate the usability of this large-bore defensive longarm is the excessive recoil produced by powerful shotshells packed with 00 buck, limiting its application by small-statured shooters and hampering follow-up shots. Advanced Armament Corp. addresses this potential issue with the company's all-new Brakeout 2.0 SG12 shotgun muzzle brake.

Machined from a single piece of 17-4 stainless steel, the SG12 brake is designed to work on any 12-gauge shotgun barrel compatible with Remington's RemChoke system, which means that this product is particularly suited for the immensely popular Remington 870. The device's architecture works with muzzle gases to reduce felt recoil, lessening the impact on the shoulders of shooters and ensuring that they can remain in firm control of their defensive arm.

In addition to reducing recoil, the SG12 also features a three-prong flash-hider design that mitigates the muzzle flash produced by some shotshell loads, preventing users from being temporarily blinded in darkness by a bright flash at the gun's muzzle. Another added benefit of the design is the RemChoke-inspired, cylinder-bore design on the inside of the muzzle brake, which ensure that even users who run rifled slugs or shot through their guns can count on repeatable accuracy for field use.

The Advanced Armament Corp. Brakeout 2.0 SG12 muzzle brake is heat-treated for added durability and features a black-oxide finish that prevents corrosion. The suggested retail price on the brake is $69.95.
