Those who rely on their EDC knife to tackle daily tasks often run hit a realization point that their tool needs some attention. Usually, that point comes at the most inopportune moment, in the field or out and about, when users pull their blade from a pocket and recognize a loose screw or a dull edge. Luckily, the CRKT Knife Maintenance Tool is designed as a lightweight, compact tool that can go anywhere, giving consumers the tool they need to perform quick fixes.

“The inspiration came from wanting the ability to field sharpen, adjust a pivot screw, or tighten a loose pocket clip on a typical folding knife anytime, anywhere," said Tom Stokes, designer of the Knife Maintenance Tool.

A 25-year veteran of the aerospace industry and a native of Williamsburg, VA, Tom Stokes envisioned an easily carried maintenance tool that could fit on a keychain and be carried anywhere without issue. With this concept in mind, Stokes designed and built the first maintenance tool using CAD software and rapid prototyping technology, cutting-edge capabilities that have been used in the development of other innovative CRKT products, like the Tool, Iota and Paracord Survival Bracelets.

Each tool is equipped with a tungsten-carbide field sharpener that can be used on nearly every folding blade carried in a modern EDC kit. An additional sharpener is also packed into the Knife Maintenance Tool in the form of a ceramic honing edge, enabling users to put a finely finished edge on their go-to blade. The tool also incorporates two folding Torx drivers, sized T8 and T6, which are compatible with a large cross-section of fasteners found on knives today. These drivers are perfect for solving issues with pivot screws, pocket clips or spacer screws, particularly on CRKT's line of carry knives.

Not content to leave it there, the CRKT Knife Maintenance Tool is also built with a versatile flat-bladed screwdriver end and bottle opener, providing extra capabilities in the easily carried accessory. The tool is constructed with a glass-reinforced Nylon handle and measures in at an overall length of 2.7 inches. Total weight is 2.2 ounces, and the suggested retail price on the Knife Maintenance Tool is $29.99.
