For more than 40 years, Starline Brass has committed itself to providing match-quality brass cartridges for handloading at prices that everyday shooters can afford. Out for 2018 is the company's latest offering, providing 6.5 Grendel cartridge cases for AR-15 and bolt-action shooters.
Built to fit standard AR-15 lower receivers, the 6.5 Grendel cartridge was purpose-built by Bill Alexander of Alexander Arms along with Janne Pohjoispää to provide a ballistic profile similar to the .308 Win. in a shorter, lower-recoil round that could be used easily in America's most-popular rifle. Added benefits of the 6.5 Grendel is the flat, linear trajectory of these fast-moving rounds, which are loaded with high-BC 6.5 mm projectiles.
Starline Brass began producing the short, brass cartridge case used in the 6.5 Grendel round, because the company recognized that fans of this accurate, long-range cartridge required a reliable source of factory-new cartridge cases at prices that they could afford. This enables them to produce more precision handloads at the same cost as other premium cartridge cases.
One of the distinct characteristics of the 6.5 Grendel case is due to its shorter overall length, enabling the round to use long, heavy precision rounds. The round can also be used for hunting, with great effect on deer and varmints.
In addition to the popular market of AR-15 rifles chambered in 6.5 Grendel, a number of companies have begun producing shortened bolt-action precision rifles designed to take full advantage of the accuracy properties of the 6.5 Grendel, such as the Legacy Sports Howa MiniAction Chassis rifle chambered for the cartridge.
AR-15 owners can also convert their lower receivers to accommodate the gun with a simple swap of the bolt, barrel and magazine. Alternatively, easily swappable upper receivers are also available. Reloading dies can also be purchased from any major reloading-equipment manufacturer.
The Starline Brass 6.5 Grendel cases are made with a standard-sized .080-inch flash hole. Retail prices start at $126 for a box of 250 cases. Quantities of 500 and 1,000 are also available, selling for $235 and $430, respectively.
