Nosler is tackling excess rifle weight in 2018, lightening its bolt-action precision rifle offerings with the new Nosler M48 Long Range Carbon rifle, which weighs in at exactly 7 pounds. This new model is the result of collaboration between the makers of the popular M48 and Proof Research, a company specializing in carbon-fiber-wrapped barrels.

In addition to shedding excess weight, the benefits of wrapping a precision-rifle barrel with carbon fiber include enhanced heat dissipation and stiffness. This contributes to premium performance by enabling shooters to send more rounds downrange without risking the added wear and tear of increased heat from multiple fired rounds.

The Nosler M48 Long Range Carbon rifle starts with a trued M48 rifle receiver, which is glass- and aluminum-pillar-bedded into a Manners MCS-T rifle stock made from carbon fiber. The Proof Research barrel is a match-grade addition that uses a stainless-steel rifled core surrounded by the reinforcing carbon fiber. The barrel features a Light Sendero contour and measures in at an overall length of 26 inches. The muzzle is threaded with a 5/8x24 TPI thread pitch, ensuring the gun is ready for use with all compatible muzzle accessories and sound suppressors.

Inside the gun, users will find a custom Timney trigger that incorporates a two-position safety. The rifle also features a hinged floorplate made from aluminum that doesn't add significant weight to the gun. The M48 is finished an all-Cerakote finish for enhanced durability and aesthetics. Shooting comfort and control is enhanced through a high comb optimized for use with large-bell optics, as well as a textured fore-end and palm swell for increased grip in damp and cold climates.

The receiver is designed to fit all two-piece scope bases designed for the Remington 700 platform. Rifles are available in 6.5 Creedmoor, 26 Nosler, 28 Nosler, .300 Win. Mag., 30 Nosler and 33 Nosler. The suggested retail price on the Nosler M48 Long Range Carbon rifle is $2,995.
