At the 2017 London Defence and Security Equipment International Show, Aimpoint announced the official launch of its new CompM5 red-dot optic, adding to the company's already impressive and combat-proven line of sights.
“The Aimpoint Comp Series has been established as the worldwide standard for military grade reflex sights for over 20 years," Aimpoint AB President Lennart Ljungfelt said. "The new CompM5 sight provides professional end users the same levels of performance provided by our full-sized sights in a much more compact optic. This new product saves size and weight for the operator, with no sacrifice in overall performance.”
The CompM5 optic was initially designed for contract use, and examples of the optic have been seen in mission use around the world before its official unveiling at DSEI. The optic is still prioritized as a contract optic, so commercial sales will take place only as contract commitments and production levels allow.
The Aimpoint CompM5 is the smallest, most compact optic ever offered in the company's Comp line of red-dot sights. The red dot weighs in at just 5.19 ounces and is constructed with a military-grade lens system that allows for optimum light transmission, as well as enhanced clarity of the red dot. The optic is parallax-free under most operational situations, and the improved clarity of the red dot means that the system works well with red-dot magnifiers available on the market.
One of the stand-out features of the new CompM5 sight is the fact that the optic is powered by a single, commonly available AAA battery. The power system was developed in order to streamline logistics for operational users, since AAA batteries are in plentiful supply all across the world and aren't as hazardous to ship and store as previously used lithium batteries. Even with this alkaline battery-powered system, the CompM5 boasts a battery life of more than 5 years of continuous use on a mid-range level seven setting.
The Aimpoint CompM5 red dot is compatible with all generations of night-vision equipment and the company's line of red-dot magnifiers. The sight is completely waterproof and can be submerged to a depth of up to 150 feet.
