Colt announced the introduction of an updated 1911 pistol to the company's elite Gold Cup line. The new 1911 Gold Cup Trophy features a number of upgrades in order to meet the needs of high-performance shooters in today's world.

"We started the development of the new Gold Cup Trophy when I decided to compete in the Bianchi Cup," said Mark Redl, Team Colt shooter and product manager for Colt. "Everything about this pistol was designed to make it an affordable option for the professional competitor to engage in the most elite shooting match in the world."

The company began development of the next-generation Gold Cup Trophy by starting with the original design and building in a number of upgrades that are commonly added to the guns by end users in order to heighten the gun's usability and performance in a competition setting.

"Now, for the cost of perhaps one or two of these services, you can buy a brand new Gold Cup with the upgrades right from the factory," Redl said.

The new pistol features an undercut trigger guard and an upswept beavertail grip safety, both designed to allow shooters to obtain a higher firing grip on the gun. The pistol also uses the company's Dual Spring Recoil System, which allows for better recoil control. Other features include 25 line-per-inch checkering on the front and backstrap of the gun, as well as blue G10 grips.

Another change from the original model is the use of the Series 70 firing system, which uses fewer moving parts than the Series 80 system and provides shooters with a lightened and shortened trigger pull.

The Colt 1911 Gold Cup Trophy is available in both 9 mm and .45 ACP and retails at a suggested price of $1,699.
