Streamlight introduced its new Keymate USB in 2017, giving consumers an easy-to-carry EDC light that quickly attaches to a key ring.
The light is shaped like a key, and in the long, key-shaped protrusion, a 35-lumen LED light illuminates the immediate area, giving users an easy tool to light up the darkness with the quick push of a button. The light has three separate modes: high, low and flash. The high mode features a maximum output of 35 lumens, while the low mode features 16 lumens of illumination. The flash mode flashes approximately twice a second as an emergency feature and flashes at 35 lumens.
The unit runs off a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery, which is recharged through a USB port on the side of the light. The battery provides approximately 1 hour of run time on high mode, while the low and flash modes have 2 hours of run time. The Keymate has a low-battery warning system which will indicate low battery with red flashing underneath the activation button. When charging, the light will emit a red LED light. A fully charged battery will be indicated with a green LED light. The Keymate USB recharges fully in 3 hours from any USB power source.
The Keymate USB is constructed with impact-resistant polycarbonate along with a die-cast aluminum main body for durability. The light is impact-resistant to drops of up to 1 meter and is rated IPX4 weather-resistant. The total length of the light is 2.9 inches, while the width and thickness are 1.08 inches and 0.5 inches, respectively. The total weight of the unit is 0.5 ounces.
When on display, the unit has a Try-Me feature that only allows for the high setting. Once purchased, simply charge the unit fully to unlock the three-position mode. Switching between modes is achieved by pressing the button two or three times within 1.5 seconds.
The suggested retail price on the Streamlight Keymate USB is $28.
