Wilson Combat launched its brand-new EDC X9 defensive handgun in March 2017, a design that brings together the company's EDC 9 1911 slide assembly with Wilson Combat's all-new high-capacity X-frame.

The new EDC X9 gives defensive shooters a high-capacity, 1911-style handgun chambered in 9 mm that features the custom touches associated with Wilson Combat guns. The new X-frame is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and is designed to accept Mec-Gar 15-round magazines made specifically for the pistol while offering shooters a grip that is smaller in circumference than a standard 1911. The frame also retains all standard 1911 controls, such as the thumb safety, slide stop and magazine release.

The X-frame design is also screwless, using hammer-spring tension to hold the VZ Grips G-10 starburst-pattern grips on the frame. For disassembly, the pistol comes apart with a single punch without using screws or frame bushings.

The EDC X9 also features Wilson Combat's Enhanced Reliability System, designed specifically for 9 mm 1911s. The system uses a spring-loaded external extractor that works to improve extraction with all types of 9 mm ammunition. The ERS also features a match-grade barrel with a single-lug design that aims to reduce cycling friction, increase slide velocity and improve feed reliability. The system also removes frame rails around the magazine opening to further reduce friction.

Other features of the gun include a Tri-Top slide profile, a user-replaceable front sight and an adjustable rear battle sight. The X-frame features an ergonomic design along with an enlarged trigger guard and a choice of radiused trigger pad lengths in order to promote comfort and recoil control. The front and back straps of the pistol feature the Wilson Combat X-Tac tread pattern for improved purchase.

The EDC X9 will fit most holsters designed for a 4-inch or 4.25-inch 1911 pistol. The pistol is offered with or without an accessory rail. Other options on the gun include a choice of black, black/gray, dirty olive and black cherry grips. Buyers can also choose from small or large backstraps; short, medium or long trigger lengths and single-side or ambidextrous thumb safeties.

The starting price on the new Wilson Combat EDC X9 pistol is $2,895. The pistol comes with two magazines.
