Ruger updated its American Pistol product line with the addition of the Compact Pro model in .45 ACP in 2017, removing the thumb safety present in earlier models.

The Pro model incorporates a trigger-bar safety in place of a mechanical thumb safety, removing a potential stopping block for those using the gun for self-defense. Another safety feature is an automatic sear-block system. The pistol also features a short-takeup trigger with a positive reset, made possible the company's use of a pre-tensioned striker system.

The gun does not require a trigger pull for takedown, thus adding a third level of safety in the gun. The gun comes with two magazines and retails at a suggested price of $579. Watch our video above to learn more.
