Sometimes, items designed to help shooters with one aspect of shooting have other, less-desirable downstream effects. Double-stack magazines offer plenty of fodder at the ready, but mean a thicker grip that necessitates a longer reach for the trigger. Adjustable stocks allow differently sized shooters to share the same rifle, but at a loss of stability.

It's much the same with the Faxon Firearms Loud Mouth muzzle brake. By design, it mitigates recoil and allows faster recovery time between shots, helping competition shooters and home defenders alike. What's the trade-off, you ask? Look at the name: Loud Mouth. It's not exactly indoor-shooting friendly. Think of it as an anti-suppressor. A loudener, if you will.

Constructed of steel with a QPQ nitride finish (quench-polish-quench; I had to look it up...), it adds a scant 2 ounces to your rifle's weight and an additional 1.63 inches. Shorter and lighter than a traditional A2-style "birdcage" brake, the Loud Mouth is well-suited for a carbine and/or weight-savings.

Another interesting aspect of the Loud Mouth is Faxon's MUZZLOK feature.  Allowing perfect clocking of the muzzle device, the MUZZLOK eliminates the need for crush washers or shims. Simply rotate the muzzle device into the correct position and then tighten the extension nut to 20-35 ft.-lbs.

MSRP: $79.99. Other MUZZLOK muzzle brake devices, including an A2-style birdcage, may become available.
