The reputation of the Federal Hydra-Shok bullet is unparalleled. It has established itself as a proven performer in a wide array of calibers, for both civilian self-defense and law enforcement use. Federal's idea for the Low Recoil Personal Defense Hydra-Shok loads was to provide optimal bullet performance with minimal recoil, particularly when used in lightweight or compact handguns. The 165-grain .45 ACP load does this by expanding almost 1.6 times its original diameter and penetrating almost 11 inches in 10-percent ordnance gelatin when fired from a SIG Sauer Ultra 1911 with a 3.3-inch barrel.
