Discoveries in relation to "The Modicum of Movement Affair" and my job work-load have created a lull in the creation of my "Man From U.N.C.L.E." carbine. While it's not meant to be an excuse, I view the play in the grips created by the shouldering the stock as a hindrance in the overall operation of the carbine.

Similarly, previous testing of the carbine with live ammo also revealed a tendency for the scope mount set screw to loosen under the forces of recoil, which currently prevents shooting for accuracy.

Trust me, it's a strange sensation being adrift in this alien realm—somewhere between the Wallhanger Nebula and the Blastation Station. Nevertheless, until these concerns are addressed, I can't see the point of loading up all magazines and attempting to wring it out like Steve McQueen did his Mustang in "Bullitt" (although it's been more than just a little tempting).

That said, I'm considering sending the whole enchilada—lock, stock and threaded barrel back to Joe and having him either anchor the grip using my friend Paul's idea, or having Joe fabricate the frame-mounted dovetail I've already discussed at length.

Paul also shared an idea with me concerning the use of a spring washer to limit movement of the scope mount set screw.

At times like this, I can't help but ask: what would Alexander Waverly (and Jimmy Buffett) do?
