New for 2021: Springfield Armory XD-S Mod.2 OSP Pistol

We’re down on the range with some of the new guns for 2021. Today we’ve got a Springfield Armory XD-S Mod2 OSP – this one has an optics plate. This is brand new from Springfield Armory and comes from the factory with a Crimson Trace CTS-1500 red dot, offering a 5-MOA dot for improved aiming capabilities.

The Springfield Armory XD-S Mod2 OSP has the mod2.0 grip texture, upgraded trigger, grip safety and seven round capacity. The magazine does have a slightly flared floorplate that allows you to get a full, three-fingered grip on the pistol while still remaining small and slim for concealed carry.

We covered the new Springfield Armory XD-S Mod2 OSP in a recent episode of “I Carry,” and noted that this new pistol is similar to Springfield’s Hellcat: overall length is only a .3-inch difference, overall height difference is .4 inch and the weight difference is about 3 ounces. The XD-S is slightly slimmer due to its single-stack magazine.

With these similarities, you might ask the appeal of the XD-S. Fair point. It really boils down to price. While the Hellcat is very reasonably priced for what it is, the XD-S comes in nearly $200 less. In fact, for $20 less than the price of the non-optics-capable Hellcat, the Springfield Armory XD-S Mod2 OSP can be had with a Crimson Trace red dot sight already mounted from the factory. For a difference of four rounds, that’s something to think about.
