Twenty-five years ago, GunBroker.com launched the world’s first firearm-centric auction marketplace on the internet. In the two and a half decades that followed, the platform has evolved to offer buy-it-now pricing, Take a Shot offers, Buy Now buttons, self-service seller advertising, brand stores and more.

“We’re celebrating the past 25 years, which have gotten us to this point,” said Jared Smith, GunBroker chief executive officer. “But we’re also deeply focused on how we improve GunBroker.com over the next few months. Over the next few weeks, you’ll see these updates rolling out and we believe these will continue to make GunBroker.com the premiere marketplace for all things outdoors.” The site will soon launch multi-item cart capability along with other new functionalities designed to make it even easier for buyers and sellers.

Launched in 1999 as a response to eBay’s rejection of firearms and firearm-related auctions, the website has led the way in listings, products and cutting-edge cybersecurity. What began as a way for individuals to buy and sell, has become a powerful sales engine for FFL dealers, retailers and manufacturers.

The website’s nationwide pool of FFLs also provides a safe, secure network to handle legal transfers across state lines, ensuring compliance with all federal, state and municipal regulations. Small independent shops reach a nationwide audience of consumers on the platform, and the site gives enthusiasts access to new products the second they are available.

In late 2023, GunBroker marked its one-billionth listing, and more than 36 million items have been listed since. “We celebrated the anniversary at SHOT Show, but we’re not really big on looking to the past,” Smith said. “To remain the leader in this space, we’ve got to keep looking ahead, innovating and improving the site on a constant basis. The next 12 months is going to be evolutionary for certain, and revolutionary in many ways.”
