When Colt introduced the Cobra revolver in 2017 after a rather lengthy absence, the very first thing revolver aficionados clamored for was a new Python. The legendary "snake gun" is somewhat of a "grail gun" for many, highly sought after, but mostly unobtainable. Used variants in good condition are currently selling for multiple thousands of dollars—if you can even find them. Colt then released the King Cobra in .357 Mag., further stoking rumors of an impending return of the Python with the same chambering.

And now, for 2020, the Python has returned. Colt kept the basic look the same, with the vented barrel rib, full underlug and walnut stocks. We had a chance to shoot the new Python at Industry Day at the Range ahead of SHOT Show 2020, and the reports of the Python's accuracy are, indeed, warranted. Shooting the Python in single-action mode proved, well, too easy, and even firing double-action at a reasonable pace still resulted in solid hits. This is a snake you won't want to avoid.
